Treacle Tart - serves 8

Ingredients

  • 1 x 8in flan case, uncooked (see sweet pastry case)
  • 225g gluten free cake crumbs
  • 225g golden syrup
  • 70ml water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Method

Preheat oven to 190°c / 375°f / gas mark 5.

Prepare the pastry case as per the recipe.

Mix the filling ingredients together, fill the pastry case and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until filling is set.

Serve hot with custard or cold with cream or ice cream.

how to make this recipe dairy free...

Make your sweet pastry and sponge using dairy free margarine in place of butter.

Gem's hints and tips

To make cake crumbs… break up gluten free vanilla sponge up in a food processor until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Make a batch and keep in the freezer until required or in this recipe you can use gluten free breadcrumbs.
